Arrows is a 3-Elixir Common spell that was part of Clash Royale's original card set, released during the game's phased 2016 rollout — a regional soft-launch on 4 January 2016 (Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, New Zealand), ahead of the worldwide release on 2 March 2016. It is a Spell-type card targeting "Air & Ground": cast on any tile, it instantly rains arrows over a 3.5-tile-radius area, striking every enemy troop inside — ground or flying — at once. Its damage is listed in stat references as "122 x3" (122 per volley across 3 volleys, 366 total at level 11) rather than a single number, indicating the hit is applied as three rapid ticks rather than one lump sum; this multi-volley framing comes from a single local wiki snapshot and could not be independently cross-checked against another stat source this session (see unresolved). Its core job is wiping out large groups of low-HP swarm troops (Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang, Minion Horde, Barbarians, etc.) for a big positive Elixir trade, while dealing much smaller secondary "chip" damage to any Crown Tower caught in the blast. Both the radius and the Crown Tower damage ratio have been repeatedly trimmed across the game's history (most recently the radius in March 2025 and Crown Tower damage in June 2026) to curb incidental tower damage and passive "spell cycling," while its troop-clearing power has stayed comparatively strong. (A separately circulated claim that Arrows was reworked in October 2022 into three separate smaller impact zones specifically to stop the Monk champion from reflecting the whole spell could not be corroborated by any source this session, contradicts the general understanding of Arrows as a single-area-of-effect spell, and has been excluded from this entry as likely inaccurate/fabricated — see unresolved.)
Arrows costs 3 Elixir to cast.
Arrows' target type is "Air & Ground" — when cast, it deals area damage to every enemy troop inside its blast circle at once, both ground units and flying units, rather than locking onto and following a single unit the way a targeted troop would.
Arrows currently has a 3.5-tile damage radius.
That 3.5-tile radius is itself the result of a nerf: on March 4, 2025 (Season 69) Supercell cut Arrows' radius from 4 tiles to 3.5 tiles (-13%). Official reasoning: "Arrows often deal incidental Crown Tower damage while targeting Troops, whereas other Spells require more precise aiming — you either hit Troops or Towers, but rarely both. We're decreasing Arrows' radius to reduce the damage spill." (An earlier work-in-progress version of this patch had instead planned to cut Crown Tower damage to 10%, but Supercell swapped that for the radius cut before the final release.)
Arrows' projectile travels at speed 1100 (the game's internal tiles-per-minute unit), making it one of the fastest-traveling spells in the game — troops have almost no window to move out of a tile before the arrows land on it.
That projectile speed was raised from 800 to 1100 in a balance update around March 2019, making the spell noticeably harder to dodge by moving a unit off the targeted tile before impact.
At tournament-standard level 11, Arrows deals 122 troop damage per volley across 3 volleys, 366 total, to every enemy troop caught in the blast.
As of the June 1, 2026 "Stone Cold" (Season 84) balance update, Arrows' level-11 Crown Tower damage is 75 total (25 per volley x3), down from 93 (-19%), while troop damage was left untouched. This was part of a coordinated cut to Crown Tower/chip damage on 12 spells (Arrows -19%, Freeze -18%, Fireball -17%, Zap -17%, Giant Snowball -17%, Rage -17%, The Log -15%, Poison -9%, Earthquake -8%, Vines -8%, Rocket -8%, Lightning -7%), explicitly aimed at reducing how much games were being decided by passive play and "spell cycling" rather than direct pushes.
