Combat Mechanics Encyclopedia
Mechanics verified against Season 86 (August 2026)Figures below use Level 11, Clash Royale's tournament standard, regardless of the level selected above.
Giant is a slow-moving, high-hitpoint tank that targets buildings exclusively, ignoring every enemy troop as he marches toward the nearest structure. His Hero form keeps that same body but adds Heroic Hurl, a 2-Elixir activatable ability that grabs the highest-hitpoint enemy troop nearby — on the ground or in the air — and throws it across the arena, damaging and stunning it on landing.
At tournament standard, Giant costs 5 Elixir and brings 3,968 hitpoints and 253 damage per hit to the fight, working out to roughly 168 damage per second. He's a slow mover with only medium melee range, and true to his role as a tank, he completely ignores every enemy troop — his attacks are locked onto buildings only.
Giant needs a full second to deploy, but his very first swing lands just half a second after that — much quicker than the 1.5-second gap between every hit afterward. That fast opening punch means he starts landing damage sooner than his otherwise sluggish hit speed would suggest.
Giant's targeting is locked onto buildings only — he will never attack an enemy troop, no matter how many are standing in his way. Crucially, 'buildings' means any building, not just the Crown Towers: dropping something as cheap as a Tombstone or Goblin Hut in his path pulls him off course completely, letting the skeletons or goblins it spawns chip him down for free while he stops to knock it out.
HeroHero Giant, introduced in the December 2025 update, carries an activatable ability called Heroic Hurl. For 2 Elixir, it fires in under a second and grabs whichever nearby enemy troop has the highest hitpoints, launching it roughly 9 tiles across the arena — about half the battlefield's width. If the victim lands on the ground, it takes 135 damage on impact and is stunned for 2 seconds — an airborne victim takes no landing damage but is still stunned, and the ability then needs 14 seconds to recharge before Hero Giant can use it again.
HeroHeroic Hurl works on air units too, not just ground troops — it simply grabs whichever nearby enemy has the most hitpoints, whether that's a flying unit or one standing on the ground. That's a striking contrast with the base Giant, whose ordinary attacks are locked onto buildings and can never touch an air unit in the first place.
HeroHeroic Hurl lost its 14-second cooldown in Supercell's August 2026 balance pass. Like every Hero and Champion ability except Boss Bandit's, it's now single-use per battle rather than a recharging ability.
Giant hasn't always had medium range. An October 2023 update stretched his melee reach from Medium to Long, a 33% increase meant to help him start swinging sooner. That turned out to be too generous — the extra reach let him land extra hits and deal more effective damage than a tank was supposed to — so the June 2024 update reeled it back in to Medium range, right back where it began.
Giant's hitpoints took a hit in February 2026, dropping from 4,090 to 3,968, a 3% cut. Supercell's stated reasoning was tied directly to his Hero form: since becoming playable as a Hero, Giant had been steamrolling Ranked ladder matches, and lowering his hitpoints was meant to reduce how much damage he could soak up for his allies.
Giant has been around since the very beginning — it was part of Clash Royale's original card lineup when the game soft-launched on January 4, 2016, making it one of a small handful of cards that have stuck around, largely unchanged in concept, for the game's entire history.
