Giant Snowball is a cheap, small-radius area spell that deals moderate damage to everything caught inside it and slows every unit hit — both air and ground — for a few seconds, making it a compact tool for punishing clustered troops or shaving chip damage off a tower for just 2 Elixir. Its Evolution changes the payload entirely: rather than simply exploding, it traps every unit it hits, even giant tanks, and rolls them forward as one cluster before setting them back down, adding a longer slow and a repositioning effect on top of the same base damage.
Giant Snowball is a 2-Elixir spell that hits every air and ground unit inside a 2.5-tile radius for 179 damage at level 11, with 54 of that carrying over to Crown Towers, and slows everything it touches by 30% for 3 seconds. It's been part of the game since June 2018 as one of the cheapest tools for punishing a clustered push or grabbing a chunk of tower chip damage.
That -30% slow is a real tempo swing for 2 Elixir, not just a flourish: it's enough to throw off a push's timing, giving towers and defenders extra hits on slowed units before they arrive, and because the spell hits air and ground together, one cast can catch a ground tank and its flying support at the same time.
Evolutioninstead of just exploding, the evolved Giant Snowball traps every unit it hits — even giant tanks like Golem and Lava Hound — inside the snowball and rolls them forward as one cluster before setting them back down, and it stretches its slow to 4 seconds instead of the base spell's 3. Landing the evolved version takes two regular Giant Snowballs played first to charge it, so only one in every three copies you play comes out evolved.
Evolutionits roll distance has been tuned twice — Supercell increased it from 4 tiles to 4.5 in February 2025 after finding the ability wasn't pulling its weight compared to other Evolutions, then trimmed it back down to 4 tiles in the August 2026 balance update, an 11% cut.
Evolutionthe trap-and-roll effect has one documented blind spot — Protected Monk is the one troop reported to resist being pulled in and rolled, even though the effect otherwise works on units of any size. Trapped units also don't stay where they were hit: they reappear at the center of the snowball's path once it's released them, which can scramble your own troops' targeting as easily as the opponent's, and the rolling ball's true width carries past what the targeting reticle shows, so a cast that looks safely short of the King Tower can still clip it.
In the June 2026 balance update, Supercell cut Giant Snowball's Crown Tower damage by 17%, from 54 down to 45, as part of a coordinated reduction to twelve different spells' chip damage that also touched Fireball, Zap, Poison, and Rocket. The goal was to curb repetitive tower-chipping with spells while leaving each spell's damage against troops untouched.
Giant Snowball's blast radius used to be noticeably wider: Supercell shrank it from 3 tiles down to 2.5 in a July 2019 update, explaining that the card had kept a very high win rate for months and that the bigger radius made it too easy to land for the value it gave back.
