Combat Mechanics Encyclopedia
Mechanics verified against Season 86 (August 2026)Figures below use Level 11, Clash Royale's tournament standard, regardless of the level selected above.
Lumberjack is a 4-Elixir Legendary troop who sprints across the arena and swings a big axe for solid single-target damage. His signature trait kicks in when he dies: he always drops a pool of Rage that speeds up and empowers nearby friendly troops and buildings for a few seconds, which is why he's usually played a step ahead of a tank or win condition rather than sent in alone. His Evolution builds on that idea. When the evolved version dies, it leaves behind an invisible fighting Ghost on top of the usual Rage pool, giving you a second wave of offense or defense — but only for as long as that Ghost stays inside the Rage puddle. Opponents look to pull it out early or simply outlast the Rage.
Lumberjack is a 4-Elixir Legendary troop found in the Serenity Peak arena; it's been in the game since 4 July 2016.
At level 11, Lumberjack has 1,282 hitpoints and hits for 256 damage every 0.8 seconds (320 damage per second) — but his very first swing after landing comes twice as fast, in just 0.4 seconds. He moves at Very Fast speed, attacks at melee range, and can only target ground units.
When Lumberjack dies, he always drops a pool of Rage in a 3-tile radius that speeds up nearby friendly troops and buildings, boosting their output by 30% for 5.5 seconds. That pool also lands one small burst of area damage on any enemies caught underneath it the moment it appears — about 179 damage to troops and 54 to crown towers at level 11 — though its real value on both offense and defense is the ally buff, not that chip damage.
In a January 2025 balance patch, Lumberjack's hit damage rose to 256 (from 242) and his death-Rage's duration was trimmed to 5.5 seconds (from 6), specifically to bring it in line with the standalone Rage spell card's duration.
The classic way to play Lumberjack is 'LumberLoon' — sending him in a step ahead of a Balloon (or another win condition) so that when he dies at the tower, his Rage buff lands squarely on the follow-up attacker just as it starts swinging.
Cheap swarms like Skeleton Army, Minion Horde, and Goblin Gang are some of the most efficient answers to Lumberjack — they can drop him before he reaches anything worth hitting, and there's no single big unit standing in his Rage pool afterward to make the death-buff pay off.
EvolutionLumberjack's Evolution (added 3 February 2025) needs two regular Lumberjacks cycled through your deck before it's ready to play. When it dies, it leaves behind an invisible Ghost — in addition to the usual Rage pool — that keeps attacking with the same 256 damage (320 per second) as the living Lumberjack, but only for as long as it stays inside that Rage puddle. Pull it out with something like Tornado, or simply outlast the 5.5-second Rage, and the Ghost disappears.
EvolutionA June 2026 balance patch cut the Ghost's damage to crown towers in half — 256 down to 128 per hit, or 160 damage per second instead of 320 — specifically to curb how much unavoidable tower damage the Evolution could rack up on offense, while leaving its defensive strength untouched.
