Tornado is a 3-Elixir Epic spell, unlocked in the Miner's Mine arena, that drags every enemy troop within its large radius toward the center over about a second while chipping them with area damage. It's a positioning tool as much as a damage spell: bunching enemies together sets them up to be finished off by your splash-damage troops or lets you drag a push closer to your King Tower so it starts firing. Tornado doesn't damage buildings on the enemy side, but it can scratch a crown tower if the pull effect overlaps one. Its own damage is modest and was cut further in a 2025 balance pass, so it's best paired with another card that punishes grouped-up troops rather than relied on to win a fight by itself.
Tornado is a 3-Elixir Epic spell unlocked in the Miner's Mine arena, first released on 11 November 2016.
It pulls all nearby enemy troops, air and ground alike, toward the center of a wide zone (about 5.5 tiles across) over roughly 1 second.
How hard a troop gets pulled depends on its speed and weight — slow, heavy units like Golem get dragged the furthest, while fast units moving away from the Tornado resist the pull.
At tournament standard (level 11), Tornado deals 84 damage total to troops it pulls in and 29 damage to a crown tower if the effect reaches one.
In April 2025, Supercell halved Tornado's total damage output, from two 84-damage hits landing on a target that stayed in the pull for its whole duration (168 total) down to a single 84-damage hit — the value still in effect today.
Tornado's current short, powerful pull dates to a May 2020 rework: Supercell cut its duration in half, roughly doubled how strongly it drags troops in, and gave it the ability to chip crown towers for the first time.
Because it groups enemies without dealing much damage on its own, Tornado is usually paired with a splash-damage troop or building (like Baby Dragon, Executioner, or Bomb Tower) so the bunched-up group gets punished together.
Tornado is also used to drag an enemy push within range of your own King Tower, waking it up early to help defend, or to yank a lone tank off the bridge and stall its advance.
