Figures below use Level 11, Clash Royale's tournament standard, regardless of the level selected above.
Golem is a heavy, slow-moving tank that can only target buildings — it ignores enemy troops entirely and marches straight for a tower, soaking hits the whole way. When it's finally destroyed, it detonates for splash damage and knockback, then splits into two smaller Golemites that keep pushing toward buildings on their own, each of which also explodes for splash damage when it in turn dies.
At tournament-standard level 11, Golem has 5,120 hitpoints and hits for 312 damage per swing, which works out to 124 damage per second since it only swings once every 2.5 seconds. It costs a hefty 8 Elixir and takes 3 seconds to deploy before it starts lumbering forward — it's one of the slowest-moving troops in the game.
Golem can only target buildings, so it completely ignores enemy troops and walks straight for the nearest tower or defensive building while tanking whatever hits come its way. Its first swing lands after just 1 second instead of the usual 2.5-second wait, so it starts damaging a building almost the moment it arrives instead of standing still through a full attack cycle first.
When Golem is destroyed, it explodes for 225 damage in a 2-tile radius and knocks back anything caught in the blast, then splits into two Golemites. Each Golemite has 1,039 hitpoints and, just like its parent, swings for 84 damage every 2.5 seconds (33 damage per second) with a fast 1-second first hit, and also targets only buildings. When a Golemite is destroyed in turn, it sets off its own explosion for 99 damage in that same 2-tile radius.
Early in Golem's life, Supercell rebalanced how its power was split between its two halves: a February 2016 update raised the main Golem's hitpoints, damage, and death damage by 43% while cutting the same three stats on the Golemites by 43%, shifting more of the card's power into the tanky main body and less into the pieces it leaves behind.
In an August 2025 balance update, Supercell nearly doubled Golemite damage at tournament standard, raising it from 48 to 84 — a 74% increase. The developers said players were simply ignoring Golemites because their damage was so low, and wanted the death-split to actually threaten towers instead of being a non-issue.
Golem has been in Clash Royale since the very beginning, releasing on 4 January 2016 as part of the game's limited regional soft launch on iOS — available only in a handful of countries including Canada, Australia, and several Nordic nations — nearly two months before the worldwide release on 2 March 2016.
Golem's death explosion doesn't discriminate by team, and it deals its full 225 damage across a 2-tile radius the instant it dies. That's not quite enough to guarantee a clean wipe of a full Skeleton Army meleeing it, though — since the skeletons swarm in from multiple angles, only the ones within that 2-tile radius when the blast goes off actually die, so a few stragglers typically survive and go on to finish off the newly-spawned Golemites. That makes Skeleton Army a risky-but-rewarding counter to Golem rather than a clean one.
The knockback from Golem's death explosion works the same way as a spell like Fireball's — it shoves nearby troops backward. If an enemy troop happens to be standing close enough to the river when the Golem dies next to it, that knockback can be strong enough to push it clear across to the other side.
