Ice Golem

Ice Golem is a 2-Elixir Rare troop that only attacks buildings, not enemy troops — it's a cheap, disposable mini-tank rather than a fighter. Its real value comes on death: it explodes into an icy nova that damages and slows everything nearby, air or ground, which is why it's prized for both defense (buying time, clearing swarms) and offense (leading a Hog Rider or other win condition toward the tower). In 2026, Ice Golem also gained a Hero form with an activatable Snowstorm ability — a traveling blizzard that hits enemies with repeated blasts of damage and crowd control. That ability has already been reworked once since launch, trading a freeze effect for extra damage and moving from a repeatable cooldown to a single-use ability.

• Ice Golem is a 2-Elixir Rare troop that has been in Clash Royale since 14 October 2016, unlocking in the Frozen Peak arena. At level 11 it has 1,315 hitpoints (up 10% from 1,198 after a July 2025 buff) and swings for 84 damage every 2.5 seconds — about 33 damage per second — with a faster 1-second first hit that lets it strike before slower attackers can.

• Like Golem or Giant, Ice Golem only targets buildings — it walks straight past enemy troops toward the tower and won't fight back if troops attack it first, though they can still damage it freely. It's a slow mover with very short melee range, so it leans on its low cost and tankiness rather than speed or reach.

• Its signature trait is what happens when it dies: Ice Golem detonates for 84 damage in a 2-tile radius that hits both air and ground troops, plus a slow effect. That slow currently sits at -30% for 2 seconds, trimmed down from -35% in an October 2025 balance update. The blast alone is enough to wipe out low-health swarm troops like Skeletons or Goblins caught nearby, and the slow can cost a defender its next hit or two.

• Because it's cheap, tanky for its cost, and only targets buildings, Ice Golem is a defining piece of Hog Rider cycle decks — dropped in front of the Hog Rider so towers and defenders attack the golem instead, buying the win condition extra time. It's the backbone of the long-running '2.6 Hog Cycle' deck.

• At just 2 Elixir, Ice Golem is a poor target for defensive spells — spending a card like Zap or The Log purely to finish it off before it reaches the tower is almost always an Elixir-losing trade for the defender, so most players just let a cheap troop or the tower itself clean it up.

• HeroIce Golem got a Hero form in the Fire & Ice season, which began 5 January 2026 (Hero Ice Golem itself became unlockable on 16 January). In Hero form it keeps its 2-Elixir cost but adds the Snowstorm ability — a moving blizzard that pulses three times across a 4-tile radius, damaging and slowing every enemy it touches.

• HeroAn August 2026 update reworked Snowstorm's third blast — it now slows enemies instead of freezing them — and each blast's damage jumped 80% (from 38 to 69 at level 11), ensuring the full three-blast chain is enough to finish off Goblin-tier troops. The same update made every Hero ability single-use, turning Snowstorm from a reusable attack into a single-use one.

• HeroActivating Snowstorm costs an additional 2 Elixir on top of the 2 spent to place him, so a full body-plus-blast play costs 4 Elixir total.
